tour update

7/7/11

We’ve been gone from Australia for 58 days now, played in 10 cities across 3 continents so far. Reckon we should adopt a new motto “Set Sail - nothing ever goes as planned” The tour has been a mad series of adventure and misadventure - never thought when we left that we’d end up playing on airplanes or half-naked in the London rain.

The best thing is seeing the reaction of people in all these different places. Around the world the reaction has been the same - a smile. That’s pretty damn cool. I’d like to think that we’ve made people’s days brighter in 10 cities worldwide now, playing our mad silly pop music and dancing around. Makes the whole all-or-nothing aspect of it worthwhile.

We’ll be in NYC in a few days, excited to see what America holds and still determined that the tour will end with us having been the first band to play all 7 continents. Still working out how, but determined to do it. Nobody expects an indie band to be able to pull it off, and truth is, we probably can’t. Not without help. :) If you want to help finish this journey (and get a pretty mad t-shirt out of it) pop on over to www.riceupyourlife.com

Cheers!

Stockholm

only 17 years old
young as summer
when I left home

eyes wide blind with
drifter’s dreams
so I left
american love

Paris  left my young heart broken
Stockholm brought me
back to the home

I left for London and her
grey morning chill
so I left
american love

couldn’t it be
I lost you in the city
found myself in Stockholm
dockside
eyes bright watching
for you

Barcelona beaches
warm in the morning
when the sunrise
lights boats in harbour

Mediterranean
girls drinking san miguel water
gold in the sun
all I needed was you

couldn’t it be
I lost you in the city
found myself in Stockholm
dockside
eyes bright watching
for you

We’ve been on this rice challenge for 13 days now, eating the grain to save money for a new violin and our american tour. Someone gave us 250$ to write a song about their company so we did some creative songwriting and came up with a rather interesting piece…

Met up with these guys (Los Adoquines de Spartaco) after a long, tiring day playing in Maeurpark, Berlin. Tried to shoot a video earlier in the day which resulted in a massive fail- buckets broke, violin broke, amp broke; everything that could went to shit in our ten minute set! Watched their incredible, ‘murga’ dancing and had to do a video with them. Remixed ‘The Boat Song’ live and it ended up being 50 times better than what we were trying so hard to shoot earlier. Nice when things like that happen ay.

Had a few days in Stockholm so we met up with an old friend and filmed this with her on the keys and the Stockholm harbour in the background. Wind, salt spray, the creaking of ropes from the boats on the wharf - definitely one of our favorite moments playing music around the world.
